Groups of Taiwanese Americans physically marched three times in years 2007, 2009 and 2010 respectively, twice in the US (2007 and 2009) and once (2010) in Taiwan. The purpose of the 2007 march was to commemorate 60th anniversary of 2-28 Masaccre of Formosans (Taiwanese) by the Chinese Nationalist army that happened in 1947. The 2009 march was to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) which was passed by the Congress in 1978 and signed into law by president Carter in the year 1979. The 2010 march in Taipei, Taiwan was to call for a “Republic of Taiwan” now!
A decade later, in the year of 2020, from the last March for Taiwan of 2010, we are looking at a Taiwan far from our calling.
The “Republic of China” still exsits on Taiwan and its elected leaders are making the present and future of Taiwan more difficult. The previous Ma administration (2008 – 2016) almost sold out Taiwan to People’s Republic of China (PRC aka China) by weakening its military defense capacity substantially. Ma also tried very hard on forcing to pass an unfair trading “open door” deal of ECFA* with China. The present leader Tsai (2016 – present) was re-elcted this January 11th, 2020, and she keeps on insisting Taiwan is already independent and its name is Republic of China (ROC). Why do we state that these leaders of Republic of China on Taiwan are making Taiwan face more difficulties and even a break future?
